Frequently Asked Laser Dentistry Questions:
What is laser dentistry?
Laser dentistry is a safe, fast, painless way to remove cavities, repair gums, and whiten teeth.
How does it work?
A laser is a beam of light set to a specific wavelength. The wavelength can be tuned to remove a cavity, activate a tooth whitening gel, or contour a gum line. The laser only affects the targeted area – the rest of the mouth is unharmed.
Does it hurt?
Not generally. Lasers do not vibrate and they do not produce heat. Also, since the tissue the laser targets is vaporized, not cut, the area is instantly sterilized without any bleeding or pain.
Aren’t lasers dangerous?
Dental lasers are not dangerous in anyway. The lasers used in laser dentistry are designed to only target a specific type of tissue, depending on the procedure you are having.
How do I know if I need laser dentistry?
There are other ways to treat cavities and whiten teeth. Lasers are often the quickest, most thorough procedure, however. Only a qualified cosmetic dentist can determine if your individual situation warrants the use of a laser.
Can just any dentist use a laser?
Absolutely not. Lasers require years of extensive training, such as training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. (See the laser procedure page for more information on Drs. Chin ’s qualifications regarding laser work.)
How long do the results last?
The length of your laser dentistry results depends on the type of procedure you have had and how well you maintain your results. Some procedures, like gum contouring can last a lifetime. The best way to determine how long your results will last is to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Chin or Dr. Pharar and ask them.
How much does laser dentistry cost?
This depends on what you need done. To determine an exact cost, please contact our laser dentistry office for more information.
